The Immune System
The immune system involves a close network of cells, tissues and organs that all work together to prevent and defend
the body. It works to fend of new and existing foreign pathogens by a series of defences.
The immune system uses both chemical, physical and cellular barriers and defences to initially avoid
the pathogens entering the body, and as well as killing off infected cells.
The immune system works in a healthy body by the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system produces B and T cells that
are capable of fending off foreign antigens, also known as the 3rd lind of defence, but before going on to the 3rd line of defence,
pathogens must get through the first and second line of defence.
Without the immune system the body would be unable to function at all, with potential viral infections already in
the our bodies it would be easy for bacteria and pathogens to kill off or invade all healthy cells within the body
creating a painful death.
