SECOND LINE OF DEFENCE
Second line of defence occurs when the first line defence fails to protect the body, where pathogens, virus and bacteria enter the body or affect the skin. It consists of different compartments which all work together to fight off foreign matter and to help the body maintain homoeostasis. The response is non-specific, meaning it attacks against a wide variety of pathogens. Second line of defence is cell-mediated, and innate.
